Introduction
So, I’ve been tinkering with Gogomi, a fun little helper who tracks my walks and keeps me motivated on my quest to walk all of Vancouver. My friends have asked again and again whether they could also have Gogomis of their own, and I’ve been working to get it ready for multiple people to play with.
I spent a lot of time wrestling with the database and wading through Apple’s TestFlight docs to get my app approved for beta testing. Now I can share Gogomi with my friends to test on their phones. Pretty cool, right?
First Tester
About a week ago (week ago), I met up with my first tester at the Pacific Centre’s cafeteria. Nothing says “tech launch” like mall food court vibes, am I right? We got right into setting up Gogomi on their phone, over some grub and Dairy Queen ice cream.
In all honesty, things weren’t smooth sailing. I was writing database queries manually to set up their profile. And we hit some bugs right off the bat, haha!
Turns out, I forgot to account for a very important edge case (cold start problem): what does Gogomi do when someone hasn’t taken any walks yet? At that moment, the answer was: crash.
By the time we were done with our triple-berry smoothie and chocolate mint fudge ice cream, I got Gogomi up and running for my friend. Crisis averted!
Further testing
Soon after, as we continued testing with two people having Gogomis, I ran into a big hiccup where street coverage was being shared between users because my profile was hardcoded in certain parts of the code. So when I took a walk, it updated for everyone instead of just me!
After some frantic fixing, I got it sorted! You can see different coverages for different users. Much better!
More users!
Once I got the hang of onboarding, I started sharing Gogomi with a few others. There are now seven whole Gogomis out in the wild!

Conclusion
And there we go! There are many Gogomis out there, and for now it’s just for those with an Apple Watch and an iOS device, but who knows what the future holds?
It’s only been a few days, and I’m already getting some pretty sweet feedback from testers.
Keep your eyes peeled for more Gogomi updates. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll have a whole swarm of sauntering assistants out there! Until next time.
Love this for you and all the new gogomi users out there!!
Question: Is gogomi's notifications/hype/vim prompts still in Twi for everyone currently trying it out?
