I promise I’m alive and well, folks! My absence has been for good reason—I’ve been on quite the adventure, culminating in the Whistler GranFondo! That’s a 122km ride from Vancouver to Whistler, with over 2000m of elevation gain!
Now, I’m not a road cyclist by any stretch, and only picked up the sport ~a month before the event. You can then imagine that training for the GranFondo consumed most of my free time and energy.
The ride itself was challenging and cathartic. Along the way, I learned so much—about cycling, myself, and the cycling culture here in Vancouver. The camaraderie among riders, breathtaking views along the Sea to Sky Highway, and the sense of accomplishment at the finish line were unforgettable.
After a well-earned recovery week, I jumped back into Gogomi’s code. It’d been a while, and you know how it goes—a true test of good code is how easy it is for your future self (and others) to read and understand.
I added what I’m calling the “footprints” function. It generates black-and-white images of my walks through any neighbourhood, which I think is pretty cool.
Here are some footprints drawn:
It’s fascinating to see how different street layouts shape these patterns. My walking adventures since my last post have been just as fun (and twisty), and I can’t wait to journal more of them soon.
Until then, stay tuned for the next post! There’s much more to come. Thanks for sticking around, and I’ll catch you all in the next update! 👋🏿
